2016 Title Recodifications

Recodification of Title 55: Property and Conveyances

Pursuant to § 30-152 of the Code of Virginia, the Virginia Code Commission voted to revise Title 55, Property and Conveyances, as part of its work plan. An advisory panel of practitioners experienced in this area will assist the Commission with this title recodification. The final report is expected to be released in 2018. It is anticipated that legislation enacting new Title 55.1 will be introduced at the 2019 General Assembly Session.

Subtitle III: Rental Conveyances
The division of Subtitle III into Parts A and B is no longer necessary due to the reorganization of the provisions regarding residential tenancies.

Due to legislative changes in 2017 and 2018, the three chapters of proposed Part A-Residential Tenancies have been consolidated into a single chapter containing all of the provisions relating to residential rental tenancies under the title "Virginia Residential Landlord and Tenant Act."
